My Grape Profile Table, Fully Revised & Updated!

An invaluable tasting can download the latest PDF here from my dropbox folder.

At the BBR Portfolio tasting earlier this week, I felt very happy when Vincent, a student of WSET L4 I had not previously met, approached me to say that this table helped him tremendously with his unit 3 exam - aka "the big one"...

In his honor, I release here the latest version.  It is a unique table of its kind and now its 4th edition.

It lists the major grape varieties and shows typical structural levels, aromatic categories, ageing potential, and possible aromas.  An excellent tool to memorize and use alongside tastings to help imprint the distinctive character of each grape.

It was built using references from the well respected publications below as well as with some adjustments from the experience of my own wine tastings as I prepare for the MW exam:

- oz clarke, grapes & vines -
- delong's wine grape varietal table -
- clive michelsen, tasting & grading wine -
- wine tasting, micheal broadbent -
- le nez du vin, complete kit -
- pierre galet, les grands cépages -
- pierre casamayor, les aromes du vin -
- pierre casamayor, l'école de la dégustation -
- hugh johnson & jancis robinson - the world atlas of wine -
- fiona beckett, wine by style -
- jancis robinson, julia harding, jose vouillamoz, wine grapes -

i also would like to acknowledge the help of tersina shieh with whom i have spent countless hours tasting wines and debating this table...
